Natural Beautiful Beaches in Sri Lanka

Negombo
To the north of Colombo about 37 km lies Negombo. The wide golden sandy beaches are the most tourist attractions of Negombo. Lagoon of Negombo is famous harvesting of lobster harvesting. Negombo is the deal place to those who want a quick access to KBIA (Katuayake Bandaranayake International Airport ) which is 6 km away.

     
Hikkaduwa
The beach of Hikkaduwa is situated 98 km from Colombo towards the south of Sri Lanka. This fun coastal town 14 kms from Galle was the first (1960's) of Sri Lanka's beautiful beaches to be discovered by tourists. Snorkeling and diving in the clear waters are the major past-time along this stretch and is the most environmentally friendly way to see the colorful fish that dart around. The coral sanctuary found on the coast of Hikkaduwa is a large shallow body of water enclosed by a reef, decorated with layers of multi colored corals, witch is home to countless number of colorful fish. Off the beach there is a collection of tine islets surrounded by beautiful coral formations. Many species of fish and large turtles are found here.There are more than four different shipwrecks for diving enthusiasts to explore along with dive shops offering PADI courses and equipment. Plenty of beachfront accommodation and a reputation as the second best surf spot in Sri Lanka by the international board-riding set, and the reason so many visit Hikkaduwa is blatantly clear.
     

 

   
Unawatuna beach
Unawatuna beach is a picturesque semi circular bay beach that stretches no more than kilometer. As the numerous other fine beaches in the south western and southern beaches of Sri Lanka,Unawatuna too his fringed by lush groves of coconut palm trees. However it has a rare geographical occurrence: on either end of the bay are headlands. And on the headland to the northwest makes an exceptionally scenic and rare spectacle; a gleaming white great globe of a dagabo sits prettily.
     

 

   

Wadduwa
If a big part of your holiday revolves around the local beach life, you can breathe a sigh of relief. Wadduwa's stripe of golden sands is well worth writing home about. In fact, the shores here are said to be one of the most beautiful in the region, envied for its long sandy curve and gin-clear seas. It's also home to masses of palm trees, which provide welcome shade - and of course, up the ante in the paradise stakes. It's not all about sunbathing here, though. In the waves, you can give watersports like Windsurfing a go. And on terra firma, you've got games like beach volleyball going on. And as Wadduwa's still a working fishing village, nothing beats a stroll down to the boats as the fishermen bring in the day's catches.

     
     
Beruwala
Beruwala is located in the south west cost of Sri Lanka about 60 km from Colombo. It will take an hourfs drive to take you to Beruwala and it is treated as the starting point of the southern cost beach resorts.
     
     
Pasikuda
Pasikuda beach although popular among locals and well known among locals isn't a place frequented by locals or foreigners. Which is a bit strange because it is one of the safest beaches for sea bathing in the east coast. Because of the lack of crowd is very clean most of the time and the nave does a good job of keeping it clean. It has the basic facilities like fresh water bathing etc as well making it an ideal place for a sea bath. You want find any shops or traders unless you go on a weekend and even if you go on a weekend you want find many people.
     
     
Benthota
Benthota is 62 km away from Colombo in Galle district. The beaches of Benthots offer plenty of water sports activities such as water-skiing and windsurfing. The best time for visiting Bentota is during October and April.
 
 
Trincomalee
Trincomalee, one of the finest natural deep-water harbors in the world is located 257 km north-east of Colombo, capital city of Sri Lanka. Trincomalee is home to fine beaches of Nilaveli, Uppaveli and off-shore Pigeon Island. Recently Trincomalee has become popular as a Whale Watching destination too. The Dive centers at Nilaveli, Uppaveli support the tourists to enjoy their holidays in diving, snorkeling and swimming.
 
 
Arugam bay
Arugam bay is a small fishing village located 314 km away east of Colombo in Ampara District. This newest hotspot offers you best surfing , swimming and under water photography.
 
 
Nilaveli
Nilaveli beach is considered one of the purest white sand beaches in Asia. It has remained protected from tourists and visitors for a long time because of the war and after the war thousands of people are visiting Trincomalee and the Nilaveli beach. With the reconstruction of the roads and the newly built hotels the visitor count is ever growing and the beach is loosing some of its serenity.Nilaveli beach is relatively less crowded than most beaches in Sri Lanka and you want find many small shops or various other traders. Although this makes it ideal to relax sometimes it is an inconvenience because you cant find a place to have a quick bite.
